Our Story
Small Victory Bakery is a local, family owned and operated bakery and cafe. We focus on the production of breads, pastries, cakes and other baked goods as well as coffee and coffee based drinks using beans sourced from local, specialty roasters.
Our parents immigrated in the 70s and started a small bakery on West Broadway, because this was all
they knew from back home – in Kenya. Us kids, grew up scooping muffins and rolling croissants after
school and on the weekends...something we dreaded and took for granted.
Years and years passed, we went to school and started our own careers. Our parents continued to work
and grow their bakery business that supplied many other locally owned businesses in Vancouver.
Sunday brunch was a ritual for us. But Sunday brunch was not adequate without fresh bread and
croissants. We always wondered where other people went for artisan bread and croissants – back in
2010 there was no artisanal culture as there is today.
So Sunday brunch turned into mini meetings and dream sessions of a neighborhood bakery. And then it
was time to choose a NAME. Well, Small Victory comes from our family brunch experiences – where it’s
the simple pleasures and rituals that are the most meaningful. A name that reflects how we want people
to feel when they walk into our bakery – simple pleasures, warmth, community, and rituals.
We welcome you to come share one of our spaces, and enjoy a small victory with us.
